When Nico holds his ears out to the side like this, I call them Dobby, or house-elf, ears because they remind me of Dobby from Harry Potter. Getting Nico to show his house-elf ears for a photograph was a bit of a trick. I figured out that putting my fingers vertically in front of his ears would cause him to pull them back. Then it was just a matter of getting him to hold them like that for the few seconds needed for a photograph. We didn’t master it, but Nico got rewarded for learning a new skill, and I got the photo.
