High Peaks trails are open, but be careful
9/8/2011 - The photos in the Johns Brook Valley were taken prior to the DEC closure of trails in the Eastern High Peaks or while doing trail inspections in an effort to relay info to both the ADK and DEC about damage in the Johns Brook Valley. Our intention was to assess damage to the trails, streams, and properties in the Johns Brook Valley; and to clear blowdown from the trails. The ascent and naming of two new slides was not the goal of these trips, but rather an opportunity afforded to us while out there.
9/7/2011 - I changed the name on the Lower Wolf Jaw slide from “Khyber’s Slide” to “Rock N’ Roll.” “Khyber’s Slide” was a place holder name. Also, he started walking around like a big shot so it was time to bring him down a notch.
9/4/2011 - Read a blog post or view my photo album of the impact Hurricane Irene had on the Johns Brook Valley.
